In 2021, Codecademy looked at the questions society began to ask itself during the COVID pandemic, as well as the conversations in our own user forums, and noticed a recurring theme: people were re-evaluating their relationship with work.
We knew this was a good opportunity to sharpen our brand, and what we stood for. Codecademy has always empowered its learners to teach themselves new skills, but we wanted our vision to go even further. We wanted to speak to the deep emotional need to have personal agency. We started hearing from our learners that learning to code allowed them to enjoy freedom, flexibility, and control within their lives. We set out to "Unlock the potential of the world through technology."
With this shift in strategy came a TV commercial that has served as our brand anthem, a lifestyle photography campaign, and new online brand guidelines for our evolved system.
